Mathematics is essential to everyday life. Through the teaching and learning in this area we aim to ensure that all children become confident and fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time.  Our teaching programme follows the Mathematics Mastery programme in EYFS and KS1 The White Rose Mastery Scheme in KS2 which covers the curriculum requirements of:

  • Number – place value; addition & subtraction; multiplication & division; fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Measurement
  • Geometry – properties of shape; position & direction
  • Statistics

In addition, each class has additional practice of Maths with short sessions of 15 minutes, 3 times a week, these can be a class meeting style or practice of different styles of questions or purposeful practice in timed conditions...in essence a bit more maths! In addition to the core maths lesson we practice our times tables daily, and in order to do this we use a sequenced program called TTRockstars. A typical TTRockstars session involves chanting and singing (and a lot of dancing and posing!) before undergoing a 3 minute practice session that mixes up straight multiplication and the inverse division relationship…all whilst listening to some classic rock tunes! Alongside this all children have their own accounts and can practice these online in a fun way.
