Reading at Wickhambrook
At Wickhambrook Primary Academy, all of our teaching and learning builds on our core values; Achievement, Commitment, Resilience, Respect and Responsibility.
Our reading curriculum is derived from the national curriculum, and informed by research.
It is planned with an impressive rich literature spine comprising of ambitious texts that inspire and challenge pupils, with the aim to raise aspiration for all pupils.
It is systematically mapped to enable children to experience breadth and depth of social, moral and ethical dimension as well as a wide range of authors and protagonists.
Learning is deliberately structured to ensure the teaching sequence is coherent, interleaved and built around spaced retrieval Core learning is revisited over time to ensure depth of knowledge and retention of information.
The curriculum explicitly teaches fluency, vocabulary and key comprehension strategies, there are clear outcomes from each reading lesson and the use of supporting texts, in addition to the core literature spine, broadens pupils reading experiences in a relevant context.
