MFL
Why is MFL important?
At Wickhambrook Primary Academy, all of our teaching and learning builds on our core values; Achievement, Commitment, Resilience, Respect and Responsibility.
At Wickhambrook we are committed to all of our children, from Y 3 to Yr 6 having the opportunity to experience first hand a modern foreign language Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures and countries in the world.
A high quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. By developing the four key skills of language acquisition reading, writing, listening and speaking, children gain the foundations for learning further languages and become effective communicators to a multitude of people.
The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language.
Language teaching should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.
